When should a child first visit the dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends that children first visit the dentist before age one. We call this early childhood visit a happy visit. Simply tell us that you plan to bring your little one to your cleaning or checkup, and we’ll set aside time for a quick oral evaluation. A happy visit serves two purposes. First, it allows our doctors to find and address developmental issues or oral problems early, even before teeth erupt. Second, the first visit gives a child a familiarity with our office and team members so that subsequent six-month checkups, and eventually cleanings and restorative visits, will not feel traumatic or intimidating.
