CEREC Same-Day Crowns in Norwalk
Restore a Tooth and Be on Your Way!
If you need to repair and restore a tooth that has been damaged because of severe decay or traumatic injury, then a crown may be the best solution. At Sommers Family Dentistry, we offer the CEREC in-office dental CAD/CAM equipment by Sirona to diagnose, construct and place your crown all in one appointment.
The CEREC system includes a digital infrared camera that captures a visual impression of the damaged tooth—so there are no messy impression trays and materials to contend with—3D CAD software that is used to design your crown, and a milling unit with high speed burrs to fabricate the crown. All CEREC one day crowns are made of tooth-colored porcelain, so they look natural and are completely metal free.
The CEREC Procedure
Once Dr. Norman Sommers or Dr. Adam Sommers determines that you are a good candidate for a CEREC one day crown, the first step is taking that digital impression of your tooth, which is entered into the computer. The computerized system then creates a virtual model of your new restoration and designs your crown right down to the matching color. The design is then wirelessly transmitted to the milling unit that manufactures the crown in approximately 20 minutes. If necessary, your new crown will be further polished to perfectly match your other teeth. Once that is finished, the crown is checked for a proper fit and cemented into place. So, in the time span of usually less than two hours, you’ll have a tooth that looks completely lifelike and a smile that is natural.
